Supply & fit of beautiful timber-alternative sash windows, casements & doors.

I’ve been restoring all kinds of properties for many years now, including my own, and my advice always is; if you’re thinking about how to make your home beautiful - windows, matched carefully to the age of your property - are the place to begin. .

The authentic sash & casement units we source are individually made to order, here in the UK, and have a 25 year guarantee.

These all-new, ‘timber-look’ pvc units are beautifully designed - and with lots of period-themed colours to choose from, there’s never been a better time to start adding kerb appeal to your home.

The gallery photos here show a few recent installations in Coventry; a casement (with three windows set into a single frame, finished off with a monkey tail handle), a bay plus 3 arched sash windows & a bathroom sash restoration (we added a new stub cill & architrave to finish off the look).

We also love this customer installation - it’s a property in Nuneaton, Warwickshire (pic 4 . shows the brown upvc we were replacing)..

For this property we finished the job inside with stylish Victorian replica architrave mouldings to give everything a touch of elegance.

Ps. Most houses have 10 or more windows, so I get that it’s an ‘ouch’ £ wise to commit to an upgrade - but our quotes are often significantly less than regular double glazing companies (who’ll typically still want to sell you ugly old style faux-sash pvc units ). Keep in mind also it’s the little details that go into how I fit them - blending the old in with the new - that makes a big difference too.

By the way if you’re not sure about anything, maybe take a look at the AWD RESTORATIONS Facebook page (just click this link https://www.facebook.com/awdrestorations or type AWD into Facebook to find us). I post pics & info about all our installs on there - plus there’s a ‘review’ section with feedback from genuine customers.

Any questions? just drop me an email or text.

Introducing the Legacy range..

Getting the right balance between cost, aethetics and practicality is a major challenge in the restoration business.

The Legacy replacement windows are a great choice if you want to improve your period property - whether it's upgrading original windows to something more energy efficient - or just stripping out old-style double glazing for something more pleasing, to better match the age of the property.

If you've double glazing from the 70s, 80s or even the 90s - chances are you’ll have lost lots of the original charm of your property as the technology just didn’t exist to manufacture true sashes in pvc.

Swapping out ‘faux sash’ or framed units for our replica Edwardian / Victorian sliding sash windows will make a huge difference to looks.

And ask any Estate Agent - windows & doors that restore an original feel to your property will always add £1000’s to the value.

We love the Legacy units because the frames are super-slimline, so for the first time it's possible to replace original single glazed sash windows without removing the sashbox - that's the big thing with nice mouldings on it that surrounds original windows, housing the weights. Installing this way significantly improves looks - and reduces costs (the image gallery below shows a cottage in Dudley in various stages of completion, with new window units fitted directly into the old sashboxes).

We’re 100% convinced modern upvc is a better option than timber - we use it now for almost all of our restoration work as it’s such a great material to work with that’ll give you years of trouble free service.

PS. What are my options for stained glass..?

If you’ve original windows with stained glass, our advice is to avoid trying to build this into new windows as it never works satisfactorily - modern ‘painted on’ replica stained glass with stick on lead beading isn’t a patch on Victorian or Edwardian originals. An alternative approach we’ve adopted is to remove the glass panels, then hang them on the inside of the window like decorative art - you get a very similar effect.

A Victorian Mansion gets a Cream Makeover

This large property, converted into 10 luxury 2 bed apartments, retained it's original sash windows in a reasonable - recently refurbished - condition. However, occasional condensation, poor insulation and ongoing maintenance costs were perceived to be a problem.

AWD Restorations were invited to install 42 individual upvc Heritage Range Sliding Sash and 5 upvc Heritage Range Casement windows to the property in 2013, in consultation with the local Conservation Officer.

The units were specified so as to provide a 'like for like' replacement for the original, requiring the larger bay windows to be manufactured with a 40/60 centre rail separation, the remainder 50/50. We recommended 'cream' as the exterior colour  - one of 8 standard colours available with the Heritage Range. Window interiors were supplied as smooth white to compliment the interior decorating scheme.

The slimline proportions of Heritage Range allow for installation directly into the original sash box - as seen here at Davenport Road - this approach minimises fitting time, however, more significantly, provides for an authentic period look both inside and out.

All windows were specified A-energy rated and supplied with trickle ventilation plus the practical 'tilt-to-clean' feature.

New and old comparision - windows installed directly into original sash boxes to preserve period character - at the time of this photo, the first floor right hand side had yet to be fitted with Heritage Range.

Ex-Vicarage transformed into quiet, cosy nest

This period gem included seventeen original sash windows; functional, but looking a little jaded. Peeling paint, draughts, heat loss and traffic noise were all perceived problems in need of a solution.

We recommended upvc Heritage Windows with a Cream finish for all the exteriors, and smooth white internally - and replicated the upper sash pane configurations to authentically match the originals. The Heritage Range is particularly well suited here, as many windows feature a distinctive 'three over one' glass arrangement requiring thin - astragal bar - period detailing to replicate the original glazing, all available as standard on Heritage Windows.

High efficiency A rated argon filled low-e glass units were supplied together with lockable high security sash catches - in an authentic period style -. finished in brushed satin to compliment the integral bottom sash lifters and upper sash pull handle.

Exposed sash box detailing on the outside is painted with Dulux Heritage Cream to mirror the upvc window colouring, with original cills re-faced to match.
